FAAN Walk for Food Allergy — Moving Toward a Cure
Saturday, September 24, 2005

Borderland State Park, Sharon, Massachusetts

Several TRAIN families participated in this walk. We enjoyed a beautiful, crisp, New England fall day walking 3 miles through the forests, meadows, and shores of various ponds at Borderland State Park. It was very interesting to be at such a large event where you didn't have to be on constant watch for foods that might pose a risk to your child.

The Boston area event drew over 800 registrants with over one thousand walkers. There were inflatable "moon-bounce" and mountain slide attractions for the kids to play on as well as a roaming Arthur to take pictures with. This particular event raised over $110,000 which will be used for research on finding a cure for food allergies.

There were also several food vendors on hand who cater to the allergy community including Cherrybrook Kitchen of Lawrence and Kellie's Candies Nut-Free Confections of Wilmington. We were excited to learn that Kellie's Candies now has nut-free, milk-free, egg-free chocolate. This is great news since they are so close and they ship/deliver for free to Reading. We also sampled some Not Nutz allergen-free gummy bears and worms.

We gathered materials and trainers from Twinject™ representatives who were demonstrating their new double-dose epinephrine injectors. We collected several EpiPen® training DVDs from the EpiPen representatives. We also gathered several Arthur posters and materials on peanut allergies that can be used in classrooms and the cafeterias in all of the elementary schools.

All in all it was an excellent day and we were glad we went. Please enjoy some pictures from the walk below.
